Amid her courageous fight against ovarian cancer, Lakeisha Glaspie found a beacon of hope delivered to her by the Lone Warrior Foundation, arriving in the form of a new vehicle.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Diagnosed with Stage 3 ovarian cancer in February, Lakeisha Glaspie has bravely faced six rounds of chemotherapy. Compounding her challenges, she has been without a car, complicating her ability to attend medical appointments and spend time with her children. However, on Friday, her struggles took a positive turn when the Lone Warrior Foundation gifted her a brand-new car.

“With your upcoming surgery and the absence of a car adding to the difficulties you face, this gift is from all of us who care about you,” expressed Rob Chumbook. “This is precisely what the Lone Warrior is about—making a difference for individuals like you. Being a single mom is tough, and having cancer makes it even harder,” he added.

Rob Chumbook, a cancer survivor, understands the intense challenges of managing life-threatening illness while single-handedly raising a family. His experience inspired him to establish the Lone Warrior Foundation, a charity dedicated to offering support, hope, and financial assistance to single parents battling cancer.

Lakeisha’s Hyundai Kona wasn’t simply donated; it became a symbol of generosity when it was raffled off during the Lone Warrior Foundation’s gala. The raffle winner chose to pass on their good fortune by giving the car away.

“I hope it changes your life for the better. That is what we are all about. Save one life, change one life; that is what our motto is,” Chumbook said.

Lakeisha says she had driven her previous car for 17 years before it broke down. The last two months without transportation have been difficult.

“And then to be gifted something like this,” she said. “It’s life-changing. I know I’ll make it to treatment…and of course, being able to get my son who was concerned we were going to miss visits.”

The new car couldn’t have come at a better time. She says her mother is in hospice care.

“Lakeisha’s mom is at the end of the road, unfortunately. And they don’t know how long she’s going to live, and this car is going to allow her to drive to New York to see her mom before she passes,” Chumbook said,  “So, there’s a beautiful silver lining to this gift.”

Lakeisha says it’s answer to prayer.

“When you get a cancer diagnosis, it almost seems that everything that can go wrong will go wrong. And it’s been a challenge for me to just hang in there, to keep praying, to keep fighting, to reach out for help. A lot of people, myself included, just don’t want to reach out for help, but it’s so important to reach out for help because there are people wonderful people and organizations like the Lone Warrior Foundation just willing to help you,” she said. “I know it was God answering some prayers.”

If you’re a single parent battling cancer and need help, you can apply for financial assistance on The Lone Warrior Foundation’s website. The organization is also seeking volunteers and donors.
