Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene Announces Resignation From Congress

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican representing Georgia’s 14th district, has announced her departure from Congress.

Known for her outspoken views, Greene has recently found herself at odds with both her party and former President Donald Trump. On Friday night, she announced her decision, citing her dissatisfaction with the growing national debt and the fallout from the recent government shutdown.

“I entered the political arena in 2020 with the conviction that ‘Make America Great Again’ prioritized America First,” Greene stated in a public letter released Friday evening. “Throughout my tenure, I’ve upheld a staunchly conservative record, defending the 1st and 2nd Amendments, protecting unborn babies as I believe life begins at conception, advocating for secure borders, opposing COVID-related mandates and vaccinations, and refusing to support foreign military engagements.”

“I ran for Congress in 2020 and have fought every single day believing that Make America Great Again meant America First,” she wrote in a letter she made public Friday evening. “I have one of the most conservative voting records in Congress defending the 1st amendment, 2nd amendment, unborn babies because I believe God creates life at conception, strong safe borders, I’ve fought against Covid tyrannical insanity and mandated mass vaccinations, and I’ve never voted to fund foreign wars.”

“However with almost one year into our majority, the legislature has been mostly sidelined,” she continued. “We endured an 8 week shut down wrongly resulting in the House not working for the entire time, and we are entering campaign season which means all courage leaves and only safe campaign re-election mode is turned on.”

Greene has made the government shutdown and Affordable Care Act subsidies a major part of her public platform in recent weeks, railing against Republican leadership for the shutdown and for keeping the House out of session for two months.

Greene vs. Trump

Her stances have put her at odds most recently with Trump, who called her “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Greene.” According to multiple reports, her recent grievances with her own party stem from efforts to convince her not to run for statewide office—U.S. Senator and governor—due to poor polling numbers. Republicans see Georgia as a state where they can make gains, keeping the governor’s mansion and winning Sen. Jon Ossoff’s seat in the 2026 midterms.

However, according to insiders, the president sent Greene polling that indicates she can’t win, strongly suggesting she shouldn’t run. That, in turn, appears to have increased her already tense relationship with other Republican leaders like Speaker Mike Johnson (LA-4). In her letter, she blasted “Establishment Republicans” and accused Trump of organizing a primary against her.

I have too much self-respect and dignity, love my family way too much, and do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms,” she wrote. “And in turn, be expected to defend the President against impeachment after he hatefully dumped tens of millions of dollars against me and tried to destroy me. It’s all so absurd and completely unserious. I refuse to be a ‘battered wife’ hoping it all goes away and gets better.”

“If I am cast aside by MAGA Inc. and replaced by Neocons, Big Pharma, Big Tech, Military Industrial War Complex, foreign leaders, and the elite donor class that can’t even relate to real Americans, then many common Americans have been cast aside and replaced as well,” she added. “There is no ‘plan to save the world’ or insane 4D chess game being played.”

Greene’s last day in Congress will be January 5, 2026, she says. The House Republican majority will shrink to 218.
