HINESVILLE, Ga. — In a heartwarming gesture of support, a Hinesville-based food bank has taken steps to ensure that military families in the area have plenty to eat during the holiday season.

“Nobody should go hungry, especially on Thanksgiving,” emphasized Reverend Katrina E. Deason, who serves as the Executive Director of the Liberty County Manna House. Her words underline the deep commitment to community support that drives the organization’s efforts.

Deason, who holds a deep appreciation for the local military community and Fort Stewart, was determined to prevent military families from having to endure the lengthy lines commonly seen at food banks as Thanksgiving approaches. Her proactive approach led to the organization of a special drive-through food bank day, meticulously planned to cater specifically to active servicemen, servicewomen, and veterans.

The initiative allowed military families to register and receive food provisions sufficient for up to two families, ensuring that these deserving members of the community can celebrate the holidays without worry.

Military families could register for up to two families’ worth of food.

All they had to do was drive up, pop the trunk and wait for volunteers to fill their car with fruits, veggies, bread, Thanksgiving sides and a turkey.

Volunteers from The Sergeant Audie Murphy Club worked alongside The Manna House to supply and run the event. Kroger, Walmart and Publix helped store turkeys leading up to start time and were on standby through the day in case they ran out of anything from 10 a.m. to noon.
