CHICAGO (WLS) — As Thanksgiving approaches, a Chicago-based food rescue organization is intensifying its mission to combat hunger in the community.

Fight2Feed, a nonprofit initiative in Chicago, strives to intercept surplus food from restaurants, grocery outlets, and large city conventions, ensuring it reaches those in need rather than ending up as waste. Operated entirely by volunteers, this group crafts and distributes meals from their headquarters to various community partners throughout Chicago and extends their reach to three additional counties in the Chicagoland area: Will, DuPage, and Lake. These partners include other nonprofits focused on providing food, housing, and resources to individuals who are homeless, economically disadvantaged, or part of immigrant communities.

Established on March 20, 2014, in Chicago, IL, Fight2Feed embarked on a mission to foster significant change, one neighborhood at a time. Since its inception, they have delivered over two million meals and salvaged upwards of six million pounds of food that would have otherwise been discarded.

This holiday season, Fight2Feed is hoping to amplify their efforts to give back. They are calling for volunteers, specifically on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm through the holiday season. The hope is to feed thousands of people and make sure no one goes hungry.
