Authorities in Wisconsin are actively searching for a woman who disappeared on Saturday after removing her Department of Corrections tracking bracelet and leaving a group home.

The Madison Police Department has reported that Morgan Geyser, aged 23, was last spotted in the company of an adult acquaintance. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Geyser had been placed in a group home earlier this fall for treatment related to a psychotic spectrum disorder. However, the specifics regarding the home’s location have been kept confidential by the court.

Back in 2014, when Geyser was just 12 years old, she and her friend Anissa Weier were involved in a harrowing incident where they nearly fatally stabbed a fellow classmate. After celebrating Geyser’s birthday with a sleepover, the two girls led their classmate into the woods and attacked her, inflicting 19 stab wounds before abandoning her.

The duo claimed they acted under the influence of “Slenderman,” a fictional internet character, believing their families would be in danger if they did not carry out the assault. Fortunately, their classmate survived the ordeal.

Both Geyser and Weier were acquitted on the grounds of mental disease or defect. Weier was discharged from a mental health facility in 2021. Despite multiple attempts to secure her release, Geyser has remained in institutional care.

However, in March, a judge granted Geyer’s petition for conditional release. In July, a Sun Prairie group home rescinded its offer to take in Geyser as a resident. Geyser’s attorney said it was due to negative publicity.

“No, I haven’t heard anything about it,” Geyser’s lawyer told WITI, following news of his client’s reported disappearance.
