At the 2025 Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in Los Angeles, Donald Glover, also renowned as Childish Gambino, opened up about the unexpected events that led to the cancellation of his 2024 tour. Addressing an eager crowd, Glover offered a candid glimpse into his recent struggles and the significant health challenges he faced over the past year.

During his performance at the music festival on Sunday, the 42-year-old multi-talented artist revealed a personal health crisis that had kept him away from the spotlight. Glover shared that he had suffered a stroke, which necessitated at least two surgeries to repair a hole that doctors had discovered in his heart.

Recalling the harrowing experience, Glover recounted, “I experienced severe head pain while in Louisiana. Despite the discomfort, I pushed through and performed. However, my vision was impaired, and by the time I reached Houston, I knew I needed medical attention. The doctor informed me that I had a stroke.” He added with a touch of humor, “The first thought that crossed my mind was that I was still imitating Jamie Foxx. But more importantly, I felt I was letting everyone down.”

While addressing the audience over a backdrop of instrumental music at the Dodgers Stadium, Glover reflected on how this health scare reshaped his perspective on life. In his heartfelt “where have I been” monologue, he shared how the ordeal compelled him to reassess his priorities and appreciate the fragility of life.

Speaking over instrumental at the 2025 Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival at the Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles, California, Glover explained the health scare changed the way he viewed life in his “where have I been monologue.”

“Everybody has two lives and the second life starts when you realize you have one,” he said while addressing the festival crowd. “You got one life guys. And I gotta be honest, the life I’ve lived with you guys has been such a blessing. I love singing and performing for you guys.”

“As my wife says, which I love, ‘if this life is a flavor, as soon as I’m done, give me another scoop,’” he recalled. “You should be living your life how you want because it can only get better.”

Glover previously mentioned the health scare in a now deleted post to social media last year.

“After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent. After being assessed, it became clear I would not perform that night, and after more tests, I could not perform the rest of the U.S. tour in the time asked,” Glover wrote in a now deleted post. “As of now I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal.”

The surgery came a month after he postponed the final 15 dates of his North American tour.

The “Atlanta” and “Community” actor had said his “New World” tour was part of his final project using the Childish Gambino stage persona, along with his latest album and a film, both titled “Bando Stone and the New World,” and the retitled “Atavista,” a reworked version of his “3.15.2020” album.
