Last week, prosecutors revealed to the court that an 18-year-old motorist deliberately caused a massive 12-car collision at a traffic signal in Las Vegas, resulting in the deaths of his expectant girlfriend and another driver’s life.

The authorities intend to file murder charges against 19-year-old Jose Gutierrez, as noted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“We have determined that there was no influence of alcohol or drugs, leading us to conclude, based on the substantial evidence, including a detailed video, that his actions were deliberate,” stated Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson on Friday, supporting the pursuit of murder charges.

Tragically, the crash claimed the lives of 20-year-old Adilene Duran Rincon and 38-year-old Edward Garcia on the spot last Tuesday, while another individual suffered critical injuries. Rincon was riding in the passenger seat of Gutierrez’s Infiniti coupe.

According to Wolfson, Gutierrez had an unobstructed view and did not attempt to slow down as he sped towards the traffic signal.

Witnesses told police he appeared to be traveling around 100 mph, although they did not saw where the witnesses were that they could make that determination.

Wolfson told reporters after the hearing that there was “a very descriptive video” of the incident, according to KSNV.

“All indications are that there was no braking before the collision, and that by itself gives rise to a degree of intentional conduct,” Wolfson said.

A criminal complaint later showed that Gutierrez was charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, reckless driving, and battery, the Review-Journal said.

Hearing Master Daniel Westmeyer found probable cause for Gutierrez’s arrest but delayed a bail hearing until after after arraignment. Gutierrez is due back in court on Tuesday.
