Although Tom Bergeron has expressed a desire for the return of the dedicated results episodes on Dancing With the Stars, one of the show’s executive producers seems content with the current format.

“Honestly, I’m really happy with where we are now,” Deena Katz told TV Insider in a conversation published on Friday, November 21. “I did enjoy the results shows back in the day. They were such a blast. It felt like hosting a grand variety show with music and dance—truly a fantastic experience.”

In earlier editions of Dancing With the Stars, the show spanned two nights each week. The first night showcased performances and scoring from the judges, while the second night was dedicated to revealing which contestant would be sent home based on viewer votes.

“Bringing those back would be enjoyable, but I believe we’re in a good place now,” Katz continued. “I’m really pleased with what we’re accomplishing.”

Many of the professional dancers on Dancing With the Stars started their careers in the show’s troupe. During the November 11 episode of Dancing With the Stars, Bergeron, 70, was able to return to the ballroom and serve as a guest judge alongside Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli.

While celebrating the show’s 20th birthday party, Bergeron looked into the camera and made a request about ABC’s competition series.

“In my last comments as a judge, I want to talk directly to the network,” he said. “This show is setting ratings records again, so next season, bring back the results show. Let the whole country vote. Let everybody vote.”

Dancing With the Stars’ season 34 premiere in September reportedly had its biggest debut in five years. During the season, hosts Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro confirmed that records had been broken in terms of the number of votes received in individual weeks.

When reflecting on the show’s continued success, Katz can’t believe how far things have come from season 1 with only six contestants competing with six professional dancers.

“This show is my baby, and I love the show so much. I’m proud of the show,” she said. “It’s such a pinch me moment because if you would have told me back in season 1 that we’d be having a season 34 and we’d be the No. 1 show on broadcast television? It’s crazy. I’m so proud of the show. I love the show so much. And I love that everybody loves the show even more after all this time than they ever did.”

On Tuesday, November 25, viewers will watch Jordan Chiles, Alix Earle, Dylan Efron, Elaine Hendrix and Robert Irwin compete in the season finale.

While Katz isn’t sharing her predictions, she is happy to see viewers of all ages enjoy the magic of the Dancing With the Stars ballroom.

“Our audience has kids, parents and grandparents who can all watch the show together,” she said. “I feel like a lot of our audience now is comprised of parents who used to be kids when they first watched the show. Now, they’re watching with their kids.”
