A Florida man is in custody after allegedly shooting and killing his two brothers during a hunting trip in New York state, authorities report.

According to New York State Police, they received a distress call from one of the brothers just past 10 p.m. on Sunday amid a heated dispute. Investigators allege that 65-year-old Scot Thompson fatally shot his brothers, 69-year-old David Thompson and 70-year-old Mark Thompson, using a rifle before driving off in David’s vehicle.

A prompt alert was issued for the missing vehicle, leading to its discovery by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and Geneseo Police Department. Scot Thompson was subsequently arrested and now faces charges including two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of criminal use of a firearm.

Both Scot and David Thompson hailed from Florida, with Scot residing in Englewood and David in Port Charlotte. Their brother Mark was from Canterbury, Connecticut.

The tragic incident unfolded at a hunting cabin located in the small town of Allen in southwestern New York.

John Sweeney, David Thompson’s brother-in-law, told WBBH that Scot Thompson called David’s wife, Jane, and apologized.

“I just can’t believe it because I’ve hunted with all three of those guys,” Sweeney said. “I’ve met him before. I was surprised, so he called Jane last night and apologized.”

Sweeney said David and Jane Thompson had recently retired to Florida.
