An international team of experts from various universities and health clinics has crafted new guidelines tailored to the Australian context, drawing from established recommendations in Europe and the United States.
“The goal was to adapt these guidelines to reflect the real-world scenarios clinicians face when men consult them,” an expert explained to SBS News.
A key recommendation emphasizes that both men and women experiencing potential infertility should undergo examination concurrently, although not necessarily by the same physician.
O’Donnell highlighted that these guidelines aim to bring men’s fertility issues to the forefront earlier in the diagnostic process, potentially altering the treatment path for affected couples.
O’Donnell said the guidelines would ensure men with fertility issues are brought up much earlier in the screening process, and that could potentially change the treatment course for affected couples.
