SAVANNAH, Ga. () – Demonstrating a strong commitment to community service, the Islands High School FFA Chapter successfully wrapped up its annual November initiative, gathering over 4,500 items to assist the homeless through the Old Savannah City Mission.

“From the outset, our students embraced this project,” commented Dr. Elizabeth Miegel, the Islands FFA Advisor. “Their dedication and empathy for our local community transformed this year’s drive into something truly outstanding.”

This remarkable collection set a new record for the chapter. The impressive haul was achieved through enthusiastic schoolwide involvement, spirited classroom contests, and robust community backing.

  • 3,035 hygiene products
  • 1,248 food items, including
  • 372 pounds and 14.9 ounces of canned goods
  • 233 clothing items, including socks, pants, shirts, and shoes

For the Islands FFA Chapter, this November drive is a cherished tradition. The competitive element, based on a points system, injected excitement and motivated extensive participation throughout the agricultural program.

“Witnessing our students unite for a greater purpose was truly inspiring,” noted the FFA President. “Contributions came from everyone—whether through donating items, motivating peers, or sorting through collections. It showcased the true strength of our school when we rally together to uplift our community.”
