In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a heated argument inside a Jacksonville home tragically escalated into a fatal shooting. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident unfolded on the city’s Westside, leaving a man in his early forties dead.

Sgt. Steve Rudlaff of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office provided details, noting that officers arrived at the scene on Lane Avenue South around 3 a.m., responding to reports of a shooting. At the time of the incident, at least five individuals were present in the home.

The victim, aged between 40 and 45, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite being rushed to UF Health hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

The confrontation that led to the shooting involved the victim and another man, estimated to be aged 35 to 45. The specifics of the argument remain under investigation, as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to this tragic outcome.

According to Rudlaff, the man got into an argument with another man who’s about 35-45 years old.

“At this time, we do not know the circumstances of the incident, or the relationship involved in the individuals,” Rudlaff said.

Rudlaff later added that there is a “known relationship” between the victim and someone who was inside the home when the shooting happened, but stated the sheriff’s office does not yet know the exact relationship. He said he believes the victim came to the house as a guest.

Rudlaff further told First Coast News that multiple people were detained following the shooting, not including the shooter, who remains on the loose.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
