CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — In an adventurous twist to his 70th birthday celebration, a boater shared his harrowing experience of his vessel capsizing off Clearwater, culminating in a dramatic rescue by the Coast Guard.

Dennis Woods, joined by three family members from Mulberry, embarked on a fishing excursion aboard their 25-foot green-and-white catamaran, aptly named “Money Well Wasted.” They launched from the Seminole Street Boat Ramp at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Monday.

After failing to return as scheduled, concerned relatives alerted the Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders about the missing boat shortly after 9 p.m.

The following morning, the Coast Guard successfully located Woods and his relatives, discovering them alive and well about 26 miles off the coast.
