Tre’von Moehrig, safety for the Panthers, faces suspension following a controversial incident involving 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings during the fourth quarter of San Francisco’s 20-9 victory on “Monday Night Football.” Moehrig was penalized for striking Jennings in the groin after the play had concluded.

The altercation didn’t end there. In a heated response, Jennings approached Moehrig and slapped him, escalating the situation until players and coaches intervened to restore order.

Moehrig is contesting the one-game suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct, which could prevent him from participating in Sunday’s matchup against the Rams.

The NFL cited Moehrig for breaching “Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1,” which prohibits actions that defy the fundamental principles of sportsmanship. This includes behaviors such as throwing a punch, using a forearm, or kicking an opponent.

The 26-year-old defender is set to present his appeal to a panel of hearing officers, which includes Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, and Jordy Nelson. These individuals are jointly appointed and compensated by the NFL and NFLPA to adjudicate disputes over on-field player conduct.

Jennings’ actions will be reviewed for a potential fine.

Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan said Moehrig took a “cheap shot” at his wideout during the game.

“The guy took a cheap shot and hit him in the balls. I was real proud of Jauan for not losing his mind out there,” Shanahan said postgame.

“I was just responding, to me, childish behavior. That’s all it was,” Jennings said.

Moehrig played down the situation.

“It ain’t really much to it, bro,” he told reporters in the locker room postgame. “It was just that. Like I said, I’ll take that one. He wanted to do a little dirty stuff, so it is what it is, man.”
