ROSEMONT, Ill. (WGN) — Actress Tara Reid was hospitalized early Sunday morning after she alleges someone tampered with her drink at an Illinois hotel, the Public Safety Department in Rosemont confirmed Tuesday.
TMZ reported Monday that the actress, best known for the “American Pie” films, left the hotel on a stretcher after she fell ill shortly after ingesting a drink she believes may have been tampered with. Reid told the outlet that she had checked into a hotel in Rosemont late Sunday night and shortly after, she went downstairs to visit the bar and smoke a cigarette.
Reid, 50, explained that after ordering a drink, she stepped outside to smoke with one of the YouTubers she met in the hotel lobby. When she returned, she said her glass of wine had a napkin over it — something she didn’t do.
After removing the napkin and taking a drink, the “Cruel Intentions” actress told TMZ that the next thing she knew, she was in the hospital. Rosemont police said EMS responded to a “sick person” call at the hotel around 12:40 a.m. Monday morning.
Rosemont Public Safety said Reid filed a police report Tuesday afternoon and that it was received by Rosemont police. In a statement, Rosemont PSD said, in part: “[We] understand the severity of the allegations being reported and are committed to investigating this incident fully. At this point, we are in communication with the hotel to gather as much video surveillance as possible. As this incident has just been reported and is still open, no further information is available at this time.”
Reid’s representative told PEOPLE that “Tara is recovering and asks for privacy during this traumatic time.”
In addition to her appearance in many cult films of the late ’90s/early ’00s, Reid is also known for her work in Syfy’s “Sharknado” television films.
