'Not a good location': Announcement of Chick-Fil-A on Northside receives mixed reactions in community

A long-awaited project on Jacksonville’s Northside has finally gained momentum as the city has approved construction permits for a new Chick-fil-A, an endeavor valued at over $1.6 million. This development has sparked a lively debate among local residents, who have voiced concerns about potential traffic congestion and safety issues.

While the community has been discussing this future eatery for the past three years, it is now on the brink of becoming a reality. The impending arrival of Chick-fil-A has been a hot topic among Northside inhabitants, igniting both excitement and apprehension.

Among those weighing in is Tammy Minton, who views the new Chick-fil-A, strategically located across from First Coast High School on Duval Station Road, as potentially beneficial. “It might be good for the kids when they get out to go get them a snack or something like that,” Minton commented.

Tammy Minton is one person who says the new Chick-fil-A that’s being built right across from First Coast High School on Duval Station Road may be good thing.

“It might be good for the kids when they get out to go get them a snack or something like that,” Minton said.

Others, like Anthony Williams, have a different view.

“It’s real busy. For them to put a Chick-fil-A right there, it’s not a good idea because it’s going to be busy,” Williams said.

One of the big concerns the City of Jacksonville heard about this project – the traffic.

According to the permit filed by the city on November 21, the Chick-fil-A is slated to have a drive-thru service and patio dining but will need additional permits for two freestanding canopies and a dumpster pad.

District 8 Councilman, Reggie Gaffney Jr., says he is a “no” on the upcoming development.

“Where I stand, I’m a no. The reason I’m a (no) is because it doesn’t enhance the quality of life, it doesn’t protect property values, and it doesn’t respect the character of this area,” Gaffney Jr. says. “As Chick-Fil-A comes, I hope they live up to their slogan of being a good neighbor.”

First Coast News received a statement from Chick-fil-A INC. They say “It’s our pleasure to confirm we will be opening a new Chick-fil-A restaurant in the Jacksonville area on Duval Station Road. It is projected to open in the summer of 2026, pending any delays.”
