JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Authorities in Johnson City apprehended a local man on multiple serious charges, including kidnapping and abuse, on Tuesday.
The Johnson City Police Department (JCPD) has identified the suspect as 20-year-old Anthony Springfield. He faces charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, child abuse and neglect, and obstructing emergency communications.
Police reports state that officers were dispatched to a residence on Washington Avenue shortly after midnight following reports of a domestic disturbance.
The victim informed the officers that an argument with Springfield had escalated into violence. Allegedly, Springfield began choking her and issued threats on her life. The victim also recounted that when her child attempted to intervene, Springfield allegedly pushed the child’s face, resulting in the child’s head striking a wall, according to the JCPD.
Furthermore, the victim stated that Springfield continued the assault, hindering her escape and confiscating her phone, preventing her from calling for help.
The JCPD said the victim and her child were eventually able to run from the home and get to a safe location and call police.
Springfield was taken to the Washington County Detention Center.
