CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Illinois women’s basketball team found themselves in a surprisingly tight contest, leading Western Kentucky by just 27-23 at halftime.

Late in the second quarter, Maddie Webber, a transfer from Villanova, drained two three-pointers that bolstered the Illini’s momentum, enabling them to extend their lead and ultimately secure a 70-41 victory in the second half.

This marked the second consecutive game where Webber made a significant impact off the bench, following her 13-point performance in Illinois’ 86-63 triumph over Florida State.

Against the Hilltoppers, Webber delivered 16 points, shooting 6-of-9 overall and impressively hitting 4-of-6 from beyond the arc in the home win.

“Coming off the bench as a spark, I’ve learned that’s my role on the team, and I’m embracing it,” Webber stated. “I really enjoy it, especially because my teammates rely on me and trust me, and I trust them in return.”

“Her defense, her offense, I think she’s taken good shots,” Head coach Shauna Green said. “She’s understanding what shots to take when, she only shot nine times, she’s very efficient.” “Last two games is what I knew Maddie could do, and we’re going to need her to continue to play like that.”
