According to reports from the Austria Press Agency, three skiers sustained injuries and were airlifted to a hospital following a rescue operation on Thursday morning (Thursday night AEDT) in Tyrol, Austria. The severity of their injuries remains uncertain at this time.
An extensive search and rescue mission was launched, involving 250 personnel, rescue dogs, and helicopters. The Austria Press Agency confirmed that nine individuals were successfully rescued.
By around midday, the operation was still in progress, with authorities unsure if additional people were still trapped beneath the snow.
The avalanche struck in the Daunscharte pass, a treacherous zone located beyond the safeguarded ski areas.
The avalanche’s impact extended to a lower portion of the ski track, necessitating its closure.
