During a recent interview on the Angie Martinez IRL podcast, Ciara candidly shared her experiences with motherhood, admitting she learns something new every day. The 40-year-old singer described herself as a “partial helicopter mom” and expressed concerns about the sources from which her children receive information.

“My kids help keep me youthful,” she explained to host Angie Martinez. “As a mom, I’ve got to stay connected and aware of their world.”

Ciara is a mother to her eldest son with ex-partner Future, and she shares two daughters and another son with her husband, Russell Wilson. She emphasized that understanding her children’s experiences is crucial to being an attentive and engaged parent.

“I strive to be in tune with what’s going on in their lives,” she noted, reflecting on her own childhood for guidance. “I want them to feel at ease with me, while also ensuring I’m thinking about ways to improve and support them better,” she added.

Describing herself as a “partial helicopter” parent, Ciara acknowledged her protective instincts. “The world is quite unpredictable, so it’s essential to be more vigilant now than ever, given the unprecedented level of access,” she remarked.

Ciara also admitted she’s a bit of a self-described “partial helicopter” parent. “This world is like bananas, and so I think you’ve got to be locked in even more now because the access is so high,” she said.

She continued, admitting her biggest parenting fear, misinformation reaching her kids before she can. “And my greatest fear is that the world tells my kid information that shapes them when I could be the one telling them.” Ciara says she takes pride in staying ahead of the curve.

“I feel really proud sometimes when you beat the world to telling your kids something,” she shared. “I feel really proud of those moments, like having real conversations with them. So you’re just only empowering them, you’re only armoring them for the world.”

Earlier this year, Ciara told Parents.com she hopes her daughters grow up knowing their limitless worth.

“I want my girls to know that they’re not limited by their gender or the color of their skin,” she said during her interview.

And in an August interview with Vogue, she reflected on how motherhood reshaped her perspective on her career, a shift she’s grateful for. “When I first began, I’m in an industry where it was taboo to have a child. The moment you had a child, you were automatically labeled as older or not focused. So having my babies and being on this journey to go after all that I’m trying to achieve has just been one of the coolest things,” she said.
