Ray J found himself in legal trouble following a tumultuous incident on Thanksgiving morning, where he was accused of brandishing a firearm and making violent threats.

According to records accessed by the Daily Mail, Ray J, whose real name is Willie Norwood, was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department at 4:08 a.m. He faced a felony charge for allegedly issuing criminal threats, which the documents describe as actions meant to “terrorize and cause fear.”

In California, this charge falls under a penal code that identifies making a threat of immediate and severe harm—or even death—to another individual as a criminal offense.

Sources from law enforcement informed TMZ that the incident took place in a home located in Porter Ranch. The police were called in response to a report of a potential domestic disturbance involving threats.

Ray J was held in a Los Angeles jail for a few hours, with bail set at $50,000, but he has since been released.

Ray J allegedly appeared on a live social media video ranting that he was having ‘the worst Thanksgiving’ of his life, claiming someone was attempting to take his children and that he was being threatened.

During the livestream, he reportedly reached for a handgun, appeared to load it and made statements viewers interpreted as violent threats, allegedly warning that if anyone stepped near his door he would ‘blow’ them away.

Princess Love reportedly then entered the scene while holding one of their children and accused Ray J of pointing the gun at her and their daughter. 

Ray J allegedly denied this, instead claiming she and another individual were intoxicated.

Moments later, a man entered the home and confronted Ray J, triggering further escalation.

Ray J is alleged to have issued additional threats, including statements that he would shoot the man.

Audio from the livestream appears to capture a child crying and the sound of approaching police sirens as officers arrived and began securing the residence.

Princess was reportedly heard speaking with officers and stated that her son had told her a gun was on the table, though the audio remains partially unclear.

Authorities reportedly cleared the residence and took Ray J into custody without further incident.

Upon his release, a man identifying himself as Ray J’s manager told TMZ ‘he came right over to get’ his client ‘out’ after receiving the call. 

Ray J was later seen at a bail bonds office. 

At this time, neither Ray J nor Princess Love has publicly commented on the alleged confrontation. 

Representatives for both parties have also been contacted for comment, but did not immediately return The Daily Mail’s request for comment

The incident comes amid their ongoing divorce proceedings, which have been marked by public tension and prior legal disputes.

In April 2024, Ray J filed for joint custody of his two children.

Love first petitioned to end the marriage in March of that year, the fourth time during their relationship.

The singer’s move was asking for joint legal and physical custody of the pair’s young kids, daughter Melody, 6, and son Epik, 5.

According to documents obtained by PEOPLE, Kim Kardashian’s ex also requested spousal support from Love which has yet to be determined.

The paperwork also mentioned the dividing of their assets which includes ‘miscellaneous jewelry and other personal effects’ as well as the Sexy Can I singer’s income.

‘There are additional separate property assets and obligations of the parties, the exact nature and extent of which are not presently known,’ the document stated.
