AUGUSTA, Ga. () – While many were busy preparing their Thanksgiving feasts, a spirited group chose to kick off their holiday with the “RunGiving 5K Fun Run” in Augusta.
Undeterred by the brisk morning air, participants gathered at the Mill Village Trailhead on Eve Street.
For numerous families, participating in turkey trots is a cherished Thanksgiving ritual, but this event had a unique twist. Runners and walkers were encouraged to bring canned goods to support the food pantry at Broad Street Ministry Center.
“With recent events like the shutdown, we’ve noticed a growing demand over the past few years, and it just keeps increasing,” remarked Eric Mongillo, director of Broad Street Ministry. “At the center, we’re continuing to register new individuals in need of food assistance. The demand is undeniably rising.”
Runner Lisa White expressed her sentiments, “I hope people remember to be thankful for health, family, love, and our country.”
RunGiving was organized and sponsored by the Augusta Sports Council. $2,200 was raised and donated to Broad Street Ministries and $1,200 was donated to the Augusta Canal Authority.
