SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Chilly conditions are set to persist through Black Friday and linger into the early weekend, with a warming trend anticipated by Sunday.

Thanksgiving brought a brisk start, with morning temperatures dipping into the 40s before rising to the 60s under clear, sunny skies. The cooler air mass will continue to push through, causing temperatures to dip below average on Friday and Saturday.

Expect Black Friday to be particularly cold, as morning temperatures are forecasted to drop below freezing in most areas situated west of I-95.

Although the growing season has ended and freeze alerts are no longer necessary north of the Altamaha River, a Freeze Warning is in place from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. for Appling, Bacon, Jeff Davis, and Wayne counties.

While this isn’t expected to be a freeze severe enough to burst pipes, it’s advisable to protect any outdoor plumbing.

For shopping, be sure to bundle up as a light breeze out of the northwest will bring wind chills in the 20s for the entire area. Temperatures will only reach the 50s by around noon so if you’re not a cold weather fan, consider shopping in the afternoon hours.

Friday night into Saturday morning will likely bring another freeze for inland communities. Saturday itself will feature a few clouds and another round of below average temperatures in the mid and upper 50s.

The warm-up arrives by Sunday, with a milder morning and afternoon temperatures in the 70s.

As moisture recovers, there will be a 20% or so chance of passing showers. The higher rain chances arrive during the new week.

An area of low pressure will track through our region Monday into Tuesday, bringing a wave of rain and embedded storms. Guidance is generally leaning on a Monday evening through Tuesday afternoon opportunity for beneficial rainfall.

Severe weather does not look to be on the table, but any rain will be good to help the drought situation, with our entire area in the Moderate Drought category or worse.

Rain will end by Wednesday morning as a cold front will move through the region, knocking temperatures down to seasonal norms with chilly mornings and mild afternoons in the 60s.
