Tragedy struck in Lake County, Florida, when a 72-year-old man lost his life in a traffic accident, as confirmed by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident unfolded around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday along U.S. 27, just south of Ruby Red Boulevard. The victim, a resident of Winter Haven, was behind the wheel of a 2015 Jeep Wrangler traveling south on the highway when he reportedly experienced a possible medical episode.
According to the crash report, the unexpected medical situation led the driver to lose control of his vehicle. The Jeep veered off the road, crashing into an electrical box before coming to a halt in a ditch.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and transported the man to a nearby hospital. Sadly, despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Emergency responders transported the driver to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No other vehicles or injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation.
