A Tampa police officer has been arrested and placed on administrative leave following a domestic violence investigation, officials confirmed on Friday.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were dispatched to Brandon Regional Hospital on Thursday after a woman sought treatment for injuries indicative of physical assault.
Investigators identified Steven Barber, 33, as the individual responsible for the woman’s injuries, which stemmed from a physical confrontation, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities stated that Barber allegedly assaulted the victim by slapping, punching, and kicking her, in addition to putting her in a headlock that impeded her breathing.
Interviews conducted by the Domestic Violence detectives of the HCSO with the victim and witnesses resulted in an arrest warrant being issued for Barber.
On Friday, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office arrested Barber following his release from a local facility. He will be transported to Orient Road Jail.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Barber has been charged with domestic battery by strangulation, domestic violence battery, and false imprisonment.
