In the gripping series “Boston Blue,” Charlie Price, portrayed by Kenric Green, has consistently supported District Attorney Mae Silver, played by Gloria Reuben. Off-screen, Green has been a steadfast partner to another Silver family member for 15 years. He met Sonequa Martin-Green, who portrays Lena Silver, during a theater production in 2009. The couple has been married since 2010 and shares two children, Kenric Justin II and Saraiyah Chaunté.
Their partnership extends beyond marriage into the realm of film production. Together, they founded Rock and Fire Productions, through which they produced the 2025 film “Sarah’s Oil.” The film, inspired by true events, features the Greens as Joe and Rose Rector, parents of young oil magnate Sarah Rector, played by Naya Desir-Johnson. Sarah defies the odds, becoming a millionaire at just 11 years old, a remarkable achievement for a Black girl facing the challenges of early 1900s Oklahoma. Additionally, the couple co-executive produced the 2014 short film “On the Bridge.”
The professional collaboration between Kenric Green and Sonequa Martin-Green also includes their time on “The Walking Dead.” Martin-Green portrayed the formidable Sasha Williams, a character crafted specifically for her, from the third to the seventh season. Her character’s journey concluded with Sasha’s death at the end of Season 7. Meanwhile, Green depicted Scott, a resilient yet quiet militia member, from Season 6 to Season 10. Green later guest-starred in “Star Trek: Discovery,” taking on the role of Mike Burnham, father to Martin-Green’s character, Michael Burnham, in a flashback sequence. The couple further showcased their chemistry in the web series “Wed-Locked.”
When it comes to maintaining a strong marriage, Martin-Green emphasizes the importance of embracing change. “You’re marrying that person, but that’s not who you’re going to stay married to because that person is going to change […] We recommit ourselves daily,” she shared with People Magazine. Her wisdom underscores the value of evolving alongside one’s partner, a testament to their enduring bond.
This isn’t the first time the Greens have worked together
The Green’s shared resume doesn’t end there. Kenric Green and Sonequa Martin-Green both simultaneously appeared in the “The Walking Dead” for a period of time. Martin-Green played the tough-as-nails Sasha Williams — a role created specifically for her – from Season 3 to Season 7. Martin-Green left “The Walking Dead” at the foot of Season 7, in the wake of Sasha’s death. Green played the kind, strong-but-mainly-silent militia member Scott from Season 6 to Season 10. Later, Kenric Green guest starred in “Star Trek: Discovery,” where he portrayed the late Mike Burnham, loving dad to rebellious First Officer Michael Burnham (Martin-Green), in a flashback. They also acted together in the web series “Wed-Locked.”
How have they kept their marriage alive? For Martin-Green, it’s all about knowing that nothing — and no one — is set in stone. “You’re marrying that person, but that’s not who you’re going to stay married to because that person is going to change and they’re going to be completely different a year from now, five years from now, 10 years from now and so are you [..] We recommit ourselves daily. You are going to be different versions of yourself as you grow. Sometimes we put words to it and we say, ‘Okay, with who we are today, I commit my life to you,’” she told People Magazine. Sound advice from someone with plenty of experience on the matter.
