The Clinton Police Department has issued a warning to residents about a scam involving someone pretending to be a deputy from the County Sheriff’s office. This alert was shared via their Facebook page on Friday afternoon, highlighting an incident involving a local resident.
The resident received a phone call from a person falsely claiming to be a deputy from the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office. The caller deceitfully informed the woman that she had an outstanding warrant and that a judge was supposedly on the line. To resolve this fabricated legal issue, the scammer instructed her to purchase gift cards or bitcoin to cover bail, suggesting this would prevent her arrest.
