A tragic incident unfolded in Waggaman, Louisiana, on Thanksgiving night, as identified by the Jefferson Parish Coroner. The victim, Shaquille Guerin, a deputy with the St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office, lost his life in a shooting.
The investigation is currently being led by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, which has named the suspect as Shaquille’s brother, 32-year-old Darius Guerin.

The shooting reportedly took place at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day in the 30 block of Marigold Lane. Responding officers discovered Shaquille Guerin, who was off duty, lying in the street outside a residence. He had suffered at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later spotted the suspect’s vehicle at around 7:00 p.m. near the crossroads of Ames and Lapalco Boulevards, prompting a pursuit.
The chase concluded in the 100 block of Jean Lafitte Boulevard in Lafitte, where Darius Guerin attempted to flee on foot, according to deputies.
Deputies said they were able to take Darius Guerin into custody and locate a firearm along his attempted escape path.
Guerin was taken in for questioning and then booked with second degree murder.

According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, Shaquille Guerin worked for SJSO for eight years and was assigned to the uniform patrol division. In addition to this, he worked in the detective bureau.
In a post on the SJSO Facebook page, Sheriff Mike Tregre said, “Shaquille did his job well! He had the heart of a public servant. He carried and showed positivity as an employee for the St. John Sheriff’s Office and teammate to his coworkers.”
He is survived by his wife, Roxanne, and their three children.
This incident is still under investigation.
