Florida Senator Rick Scott revealed on social media that his family’s home was the target of an attempted swatting incident on Thanksgiving. The senator shared that he was alerted about the situation by local law enforcement on Thursday morning.

Scott took to the platform X to inform the public about the incident, stating that he was not present at the residence at the time. The Naples Police Department confirmed to 10 Tampa Bay News that they received the report shortly before 1 a.m. Officers were able to reach Scott’s family, verifying their safety, and conducted a thorough search of the property to ensure everything was secure.

Expressing his gratitude, Sen. Scott commended the officers for their swift and professional response. “I’m so grateful for the incredible efforts of the officers who responded,” he stated. He condemned the act, describing it as a “disgusting and cruel” attempt that endangers law enforcement and spreads fear among communities. “These attacks must stop,” he added.

Naples police confirmed with 10 Tampa Bay News that officers received the report just before 1 a.m., and were able to contact Scott’s family and confirm they were safe. NPD did a full search of his home to ensure everything was okay.

“I’m so grateful for the incredible efforts of the officers who responded,” Sen. Scott said. “These attacks are disgusting and cruel acts that only seek to put law enforcement in harm’s way and instill fear in targets and communities – they must stop.”

This comes less than two years after police responded a previous attempted swatting incident at Scott’s Naples home while he and his wife were having a dinner. Police said at the time they met Scott’s private security service at the home, but didn’t find anything out of place.

Police say they are still investigating this incident.

“As law enforcement works to find the coward responsible for the attempt against my home, I’ll keep working to pass my Preserving Safe Communities by Ending Swatting Act to ensure those responsible for these swatting incidents face severe consequences,” Sen. Scott said.

What does “swatting” mean?

Swatting is the act of making a prank call to emergency services to prompt a response at a particular address. The goal is to get authorities, particularly a SWAT team, to show up.
