JoJo Siwa recently revealed that she ended up in the hospital with intense pain just hours before a major performance.
On Saturday, the pop star took to TikTok while styling her hair to recount how she was in “excruciating pain” and struggling to breathe right before her scheduled Friday show at the Mall of America.
Siwa explained that she tried to alleviate the discomfort by lying down and taking a bath in her hotel room that morning, but the pain, which she described as “really bad,” persisted.
Unfortunately, the bath only made things worse. After about four minutes in the tub, the 22-year-old realized she was on the verge of blacking out and felt nauseous.
Her mother, Jessalynn Siwa, assisted in getting her dressed and promptly called 911, securing an ambulance to take her to a hospital in Minnesota.
JoJo noted that her mom was alarmed when she agreed they should call 911, since the pro dancer is “a very, very tough girl.”
Once at the hospital, while the “Boomerang” hitmaker understood she may need treatment, she recalled telling medical staff that there are “a lot of people at the Mall of America that are waiting and counting on this performance.”
Once the pain meds kicked in, JoJo said she “started to feel great.”
“I was dancing in the hospital bed,” she joked. “I was feeling much, much better.”
An ultrasound revealed that the “Dance Moms” alum had suffered an ovarian cyst that “burst and was bleeding into” her stomach, causing her “brutal pain.”
While JoJo said it “should stop on its own,” she expects to follow up with a doctor in a week. Knowing what it was, she shared, brought “a lot of peace of mind.”
JoJo — who is currently dating “Celebrity Big Brother UK” co-star Chris Hughes — said she’s “doing alright” but is “not 100 percent” following the incident. She also praised the medical staff at the hospital for working so quickly in the face of an urgent situation.
The reality TV personality jokingly theorized that some staff may have had daughters hoping to see her perform that day, accounting for their urgency in getting her in and out of the emergency room in time for the high-energy show.
“Thank you for all the well wishes🤍 grateful for the Doctors and Nurses for working so fast and helping me get back on time, keep it pushing🤍” the dancer captioned the upload.
Fans in the comments thread praised Siwa for her dedication, but urged her to take time to recover.
“I know you don’t want to let people down but your health should come first,” one person remarked, while another chimed in, “Diva you need time off!! Please take care of yourself ✨”
“The fact you [were] in hospital but made sure you could still show up for everyone shows what type of person you are! You have the kindest heart & no one is more dedicated than you!🤍🫶🏼💫” a third TikTok user gushed.
