MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A tragic incident unfolded in Manatee County when a fire erupted at a local home on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of two dogs.

Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue Battalion Fire Chief John Eibe reported that emergency services were alerted around 1 p.m. to a blaze at a residence situated in the 200 block of Magellan Drive.

Devon Rowe, who lives nearby and separated from the affected house by a canal, recounted how his sister first noticed the fire, prompting him to immediately call 911.

“While I was on the phone with 911, I shouted for the homeowner,” Rowe shared. “I intended to rush over and force open the door, but by the time I got there, the flames had already consumed the house, making it impossible to approach.”

Rowe mentioned that the homeowner had recently faced significant adversity, having just recovered from damages caused by Hurricane Helene the previous year.

“They had about three and a half or four feet of water in those houses,” Rowe explained.” He just bought the house a month beforehand — before the flood happened– and he fixed it all by himself, he had to fix the whole thing back up. He’s got such a good outlook on life.”

Battalion Chief Eibe said units were on the scene within four minutes and saw heavy fire showing in all openings of the home upon arrival.

Officials said the fire was extinguished within 90 minutes of units arriving at the scene.

Several fire units from multiple agencies, including Cedar Hammock, the City of Bradenton, and Southern Manatee, were dispatched to assist, according to Eibe.

“We ended up with a total of 20 fire units on scene, as well as three units for Manatee County EMS,” Eibe said.

Eibe confirmed no civilians or personnel were injured in the incident.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and is currently under investigation.
