HUNTINGTON, W.Va (AP) — Georgia Southern triumphed over Marshall with a 24-19 win, as JC French IV passed for 313 yards and secured two touchdowns. Camden Brown was instrumental with nine receptions, totaling 157 yards and two touchdowns, in what marked the regular-season finale for both squads.

With this victory, the Eagles reached a 6-6 record (4-4 in the Sun Belt Conference), ensuring their eligibility for a bowl game. Meanwhile, the Thundering Herd concluded their season at 5-7 (3-5 in conference play), narrowly missing out on a postseason opportunity.

The Eagles’ scoring commenced with Marcus Sanders Jr. catching a 44-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Weston Bryan. Later, French IV and Brown further extended Georgia Southern’s advantage with a 14-yard touchdown connection late in the first quarter.

Marshall’s Lorcan Quinn kept the game competitive, kicking field goals from 24 and 42 yards, leaving the teams separated by just one possession at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Eagles widened their lead as French and Brown teamed up again for a 12-yard touchdown pass. Tripp Bryant added a 24-yard field goal to stretch Georgia Southern’s lead to 24-6.

Marshall cut into the lead late, but it wasn’t enough to finish off the comeback. The Thundering Herd were paced by Adrian Norton’s 160 yards receiving on eight receptions that included a 41-yard touchdown catch with 2:19 left in the fourth quarter.

Georgia Southern managed 528 yards of total offense and were 10-for-17 on third downs and 2-for-3 on fourth. The Eagles time of procession was 41:38 while Marshall’s was just 18:22.

The Eagles have been bowl eligible in each of coach Clay Helton’s four seasons, but are 0-3 in bowl games.
