Ocean Spray investigating viral videos claiming cranberry sauce cans were full of water

A series of viral videos have emerged, claiming that some Ocean Spray cranberry sauce cans were inexplicably filled with water instead of the expected tart condiment, leading the company to initiate an investigation into the unusual occurrence.

Ocean Spray is actively examining these reports after several videos surfaced, suggesting a Thanksgiving mishap with their iconic cranberry sauce. The company is taking these claims seriously and aims to uncover how this peculiar situation unfolded.

“We’re aware of a few reports about cans containing water instead of cranberry sauce, and we’re looking into how this may have happened,” an Ocean Spray spokesperson stated. They emphasized the importance of customer satisfaction, acknowledging that even a single unsatisfactory product experience is significant. The company has reached out to those who posted the videos, seeking further details to address and rectify the situation.

The online videos, posted by separate individuals, quickly captured widespread attention, racking up millions of views. This prompted a deluge of comments on Ocean Spray’s social media platforms, as perplexed users expressed their disbelief and sought explanations.

In one particularly striking video, a woman expressed her disbelief as she probed the clear liquid inside an opened can, exclaiming, “This is not possible,” while showing that not one, but two cans were devoid of cranberry sauce.

The TikTok video accumulated 4.7 million views in two days.

Another video showed a family cutting open the cranberry sauce cans with a knife. Two already opened cans appeared to be full of water. A third was opened on camera to reveal what looked like more water. The video gained over 8.7 million views since Thanksgiving with tens of thousands of comments and likes.

Another video posted to Facebook claimed they had four cans full of water and asked if anyone else had experienced the same thing.

“Water in the so-called cranberry sauce, just water,” one person on the video can be heard saying. “Can you believe that? Unbelievable.”

Many online believe the videos to be a hoax because people are opening the can “upside down,” but that’s encouraged on the can itself to help get the product out easier.

It’s unclear how this may have happened, if it was staged for the camera or if the videos were generated by artificial intelligence. No other information is available at this time.
