(NEXSTAR) — For the first time since its inception in 1793, the U.S. will not be producing new pennies. Although billions remain in circulation, those stamped with the year “2025” may soon become elusive treasures for collectors.
If you’re eager to secure a 2025 penny for your collection, including some exceptionally unique ones not made from traditional copper, your opportunity is arriving soon.
In December, Stack’s Bowers Galleries plans to auction off the last pennies made in the U.S. These will be available in sets of three: one minted in Denver and two from Philadelphia, the birthplace of the original penny. Notably, one Philadelphia penny stands out as it is crafted from 24-karat gold, making it a rare gem among its predecessors.
