A tragic incident unfolded at a Baymeadows apartment complex where a man lost his life during what was intended to be a routine car repair. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that the man was attempting to fix his friend’s minivan when the vehicle unexpectedly collapsed on him.

The distressing event occurred in Jacksonville, Florida, and was reported on Sunday night. According to the authorities, this unfortunate accident happened when the man was trying to lend a helping hand by repairing the minivan.

The call for help came in around 8:15 p.m. after a passerby discovered the man unresponsive and trapped beneath the minivan. Responding swiftly, officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, along with fire rescue personnel, managed to extricate him from underneath the vehicle. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to the hospital.

Witnesses stated that the man had been seen working on the vehicle around 5:30 p.m., just a few hours before the accident occurred. This incident serves as a somber reminder of the potential dangers involved in car repairs, especially when undertaken without the necessary precautions and equipment.

The man had reportedly been working on the minivan, which belonged to his friend, and was last seen doing the repairs around 5:30 p.m.

JSO said that while the man was working on the front end of the vehicle, the jack supporting it became dislodged at some point, causing the minivan to fall on top of him.

The sheriff’s office says no foul play is suspected. Still, anyone with additional information on the incident is encouraged to reach out to police directly at 904-630-0500 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
