When Twilight hit theaters in 2008, expectations were sky-high, yet the film surpassed them, quickly turning into a box-office phenomenon. It shattered records for the highest-opening weekend for a female-directed movie, raking in $69.6 million in the United States alone within its debut days, eventually amassing over $400 million globally.

Looking back, the Twilight series presents a curious mix of nostalgia, humor, and critique, particularly from younger audiences and critics revisiting the saga today. While the romantic vampire tale still boasts a substantial fanbase and a significant cultural impact, many now view certain scenes and themes with a fresh perspective.

Kristen Stewart doesn’t hold back as she addresses ‘Twilight’s corniest lines

Numerous scenes from the franchise’s five movies have become internet sensations, frequently turned into memes, parodied, or affectionately teased. What once captivated teenagers now often has viewers bursting into laughter.

Fans are revisiting an interview where Kristen Stewart chatted with Amanda Hirsch on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast. The two share a laugh as they reminisce about Twilight‘s most awkward lines and moments. Hirsch highlights Jacob’s memorable line, “Where you been, loca?” famously delivered by teen idol Taylor Lautner. Stewart quips in response, “Yeah, what is that?! Maybe it’s in the book?”

Reddit users have chimed in on the funniest lines from Twilight. One remarked, “Where the hell have you been, loca” will always be iconic.” Another noted, “I’m glad Stewart can look back and laugh at herself, just like we all do.”

Fans of Reddit commented on the funniest lines from Twilight. One wrote, “Where the hell have you been, loca” will never be not iconic.” Another commented, “I’m glad Stewart can look back and laugh at herself, while we all do the same.”

Stewart explained that many “idiosyncratic” lines in the movies are directly from Stephenie Meyer’s book series, including the iconic “You better hold on tight, spider monkey.” Stewart told Hirsch that she struggled to deliver some lines entirely because she was “so embarrassed.”

Stewart said she was supposed to call Lautner’s character “biceps” as a nickname. “Hey, Biceps! Like that?” Hirsch clarified. The Love Lies Bleeding actress said, “Yeah. Oh god … Yeah, it’s bad.”

Another famous Twilight quote, when Edward (Robert Pattinson) says Bella is like his “own personal brand of heroin,” has been called “the most intense declaration of teenage love ever.” Edward sparkling like a diamond in sun has become a TikTok favorite for edits. Many call it a “fever dream” of a movie and “one long red flag.”

A lot of modern viewers say the franchise unintentionally promotes some questionable ideas about love. Edward watching Bella sleep was once viewed as peak romance. Now, the same fans find it very stalkerish. Possessiveness seems to equate to love for Edward. His controlling behavior could now be labeled as toxic and a bad example of love for teen girls and boys.

Bella’s identity seems to revolve around Edward as her self-worth seemingly depends on her relationship with the 100-plus-year-old vampire. Let’s not even start about a centenarian dating a teenager.

Many fans say the most uncomfortable moment of the Twilight franchise is Jacob imprinting on Renesmee. Not only did their relationship spark Stewart’s viral line, “You nicknamed my daughter after the Loch Ness monster?!” It also shows a grown man forming a soulmate bond with a baby who is literally minutes old. Even though the story insists imprinting is not initially romantic, the idea of an adult forming an eternal bond with a baby immediately triggers red flags for many.

Regardless of the corny and concerning moments, Twilight remains an undeniable cultural force. Its most over-the-top lines and questionable relationship dynamics have only become more memeable. As Stewart joins fans in poking fun at the saga’s cringiest moments, the franchise continues to evolve from a serious teen romance into something far more entertaining: a nostalgic time capsule.
