RICHMOND HILL, Ga. — As the sun rises in Georgia, voters are gearing up to cast their ballots in crucial runoff elections, set to resolve the neck-and-neck races left undecided after last month’s Election Day.

In the spotlight this Tuesday are the runoffs in the Coastal Empire, focusing on the communities of Richmond Hill and Midway. Richmond Hill’s election has become a battleground over a contentious airport project proposal, while Midway sees a closely contested mayoral race following a narrow November showdown.

Richmond Hill residents face a pivotal choice between Kevin Bowes and Buck Holly for the Post 2 City Council seat. This race is drawing significant attention, primarily due to the proposed Richmond Hill–Bryan County airport, a massive $274 million venture currently under state assessment.

Bowes has expressed opposition to the airport, arguing there’s insufficient evidence to prove its benefit to the community. He prioritizes pressing issues like flooding, infrastructure, and overall growth. Holly, on the other hand, acknowledges the airport’s role as a hot-button issue driving voter turnout but remains noncommittal, preferring to await the outcome of the necessary studies before taking a stance.

Meanwhile, in Midway, the mayoral race revisits Malcolm Williams and Stanley Brown Sr., who were separated by a mere two votes in November, with Williams receiving 175 votes to Brown’s 173. For those eager to make their voices heard, polls are open today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

You can check your voter status and polling locations on the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page.

For extended interviews with candidates, we have them posted on our website. You can keep up with the races online Tuesday night at .com/electionhq.
