Fans of Dancing With The Stars rejoiced as Robert Irwin and his professional dance partner Witney Carson clinched the title of Season 34 champions. Their standout performances made them the pair to watch, ultimately leading to their triumphant victory last week.
Amidst the flood of congratulatory messages, one particular note of praise caught everyone’s attention. Intriguingly, it came from members of the royal family, leaving many to wonder how Robert had managed to capture their notice.
Throughout the season, Robert Irwin, renowned for his expertise in wildlife, emerged as a formidable contender on the dance floor. Partnered with Witney Carson, he consistently impressed both judges and audiences, not just with his infectious enthusiasm but also with his technical prowess that seemed to sharpen with each passing week.
Prince William And Kate Middleton Congratulated Robert
Those who have been following along for Season 34 of Dancing With The Stars will know that wilderness expert Robert Irwin was consistently the one to beat alongside partner Witney Carson. Throughout the competition, Robert was routinely praised by the judges for not just his cheery spirit, but also his energy and technical ability that seemed to improve after week.
Just last week, Robert and Witney were crowned the victors of Season 34, making them the proud recipients of the mirrorball trophy. After their victory was announced, Robert received a very special message of congrats from the royal family. Indeed, on a post on Robert’s Instagram, the Prince and Princess of Wales commented via their joint account:
Congratulations Robert and Witney! ✨🪩
Though this may seem like a surprising crossover, Robert has actually interacted with the royal family before. Robert himself serves as an ambassador for the organization Earthshot and, during the DWTS finale, he missed out on being there to award its annual prize.
Instead, Prince William filmed a video noting how Robert’s absence from the event was felt. “We’re missing you, Robert. Whilst your twinkle toes are going off elsewhere, I need you down here,” William teased.
Robert Gushed About His DWTS Win
Before returning back to his work as a wildlife expert and conservationist, Robert took some time to revel in his dance competition victory. In a post on his personal Instagram page, Robert shared images of himself and Witney celebrating their win. The carousel of photos includes the two of them cheering onstage, holding their trophies, and celebrating alongside their family and friends.
In the caption of the slideshow, Robert added a heartfelt note about how much the win and the whole DWTS experience meant to him:
Where do I begin. I’ll never be able to describe what last night and these last 3 months have meant to me, but I can say THANK YOU. Thank you for letting me live out my dream. First and foremost to the person who was by my side through every twist and turn… the person who believed in me, pushed me (and made sure I always had snacks in rehearsals) – Witney… thank you ❤️ This was everything I dreamed it would be and so much more, and Witney, you are the reason I could take this leap of faith and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Robert noted that the timing of his DWTS victory felt meaningful for more reasons than one. His sister, Bindi, won her own season of the competition ten years ago, and his partner, Witney, won the competition 11 years ago.
“This feels like the most special, full circle moment. And that brings me to my family, they moved all the way out from Australia for 3 months to support me and be there for me every step of the way,” he said. “I lift this mirrorball trophy with a sense of gratitude that my message and everything I stand for was recognised in that ballroom. The lessons I learned and friendships that I have formed will be part of me forever,” he added.
