On Tuesday’s episode of MS NOW’s “Deadline,” host Rachel Maddow speculated that Republican lawmakers might soon call for the resignation of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. This prediction comes in light of a report alleging mishandling of drug-related military operations in the Caribbean Sea.
Maddow expressed her confusion over the U.S. military actions in the region, questioning the rationale behind what she described as a conflict with Venezuela. “I don’t see the logic behind us engaging in military actions there, and it seems the administration hasn’t provided a coherent justification,” she remarked.
She further questioned the necessity and approach of these operations, asking, “Why are we targeting boats in the Caribbean, especially when some are not even heading towards the U.S.? Even if they contain drugs, why aren’t we using the Coast Guard to intercept, arrest, and investigate, rather than resorting to lethal measures?” Maddow emphasized the importance of following legal procedures to address drug trafficking effectively.
Maddow concluded by calling the situation a “catastrophe” and expressed doubt about Hegseth’s ability to continue in his role. “It’s hard to imagine him staying on as Secretary of Defense. Once Republicans delve deeper into this issue, I believe they’ll demand his resignation,” she stated.
