The marriage of Scott Shriner, bassist for the band Weezer, and his wife, Jillian Lauren Shriner, is coming to an end. Jillian has filed for divorce nearly a year after her arrest related to an attempted murder case that involved a police shootout.
According to documents accessed by Us Weekly, Jillian, aged 52, submitted the divorce papers on Tuesday, December 2, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the cause for their separation. The initial report of this filing was made by TMZ.
Us Weekly has reached out to the couple for their comments regarding this development.
Jillian, who is an accomplished author, has been married to Scott, now 60, for two decades. While her legal filing did not specify a date of separation, it does reveal her request for joint custody of their two sons, Tariku, 17, and Jovanni, 13.
Jillian attracted headlines in April when she was arrested for attempted murder following a police altercation. An April 9 press release from the Los Angeles Police Department stated that Jillian was arrested after authorities pursued a hit-and-run suspect the previous day.
During the police chase, authorities witnessed Jillian in a “neighbouring residence armed with a handgun.” The statement detailed, “The officers ordered [Lauren] to drop the handgun numerous times. However, she refused. [Lauren] then pointed the handgun at the officers and an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred.”
Jillian was struck at the time by an officer’s firearm before she ran into the house where a 9-milimeter handgun was recovered, per L.A. jail records viewed by Us at the time. She was released on a $1 million bond.
USA Today reported in September that a judge “ruled that Jillian would undergo a two-year mental health diversion program,” as shared with the outlet by Jillian’s attorney Hilary Potashner at the time.
Potashner also noted via the outlet on September 26, “We appreciate the DA carefully reviewing this matter and believe this resolution is fair.”
One month prior to Jillian’s arrest, she shared via Instagram that she was recovering from cancer treatment. “I’d like to thank the Academy, my amazing hair and makeup team, and the lighting designers here at #glendaleadventisthospital,” Jillian wrote on March 4, sharing a pre-op selfie while lying in a hospital bed. “As if they all hadn’t been through enough with the fires right next door! Yes, I have a little bit of the C word y’all. I know a lot of us do.”
The post continued, “I’m here to thank the incredible oncology team here, who pulled me through a complicated operation without a hitch. I am always so grateful for every second of the compassionate and excellent medical care I receive in my life.”
Scott spoke about his estranged wife’s arrest less than one week after the incident occurred, telling TMZ that the pair were getting through a “tough time” amid the circumstances. “We’re alright, look at us,” he told the outlet in April, adding that Jillian was “alright” and thanking one of the outlet’s reporters for enquiring about her welfare.
Scott and Jillian tied the knot in November 2005 and adopted Tariku in 2007 before adopting Jovanni in 2009. Prior to their marriage, Jillian worked as a call girl for Prince Jefri Bolkiah of the Brunei royal family — a time she detailed in her 2010 memoir, Some Girls: My Life in a Harem.
