In a surprising revelation on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, Quentin Tarantino unveiled his top 10 films from the 21st century, with choices that might catch many off guard.
Tarantino’s selections encompass a diverse array of genres, including comedies, religious epics, dramas, and children’s movies. Challenged to recall his top 20 films of the 2000s without any reference, the renowned director provided lively insights into his thoughts on some of Hollywood’s most prominent offerings.
Leading his list is Ridley Scott’s 2001 war epic, Black Hawk Down. Tarantino admitted, “Initially, I liked it, but it was so intense that it didn’t stay with me as it should have.” Upon a recent viewing, he found it gripping from start to finish, declaring the direction as “beyond extraordinary.”
Among his more unexpected choices were Toy Story 3, which he refrained from discussing too deeply for fear of becoming emotional, and Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, which he found both shocking and amusing. Additionally, he cited Jackass: The Movie as the film that had made him laugh the hardest in the past two decades.
Tarantino also expressed fondness for Cabin Fever, calling it his favorite from Eli Roth’s works. While praising Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story, he couldn’t resist taking a subtle jab at Martin Scorsese.
“This is the one where Steven shows he still has it,” Tarantino said on the podcast. “I don’t think Scorsese has made a film this exciting [this century]. It revitalized him.”
