A tragic incident unfolded in Naperville, Illinois, as a local contractor lost his life after being struck by a freight train while engaged in snow removal duties on Monday night, according to officials.

Emergency services, including police and fire personnel, were quickly dispatched to the scene at the Naperville train station located at 105 E. 4th Avenue, following reports of the accident.

The unfortunate event occurred when a BNSF freight train, traveling eastbound, collided with the snow removal equipment operated by the contractor on the station’s south platform.

Authorities confirmed that the man succumbed to his injuries resulting from the collision, marking a somber outcome to the evening.

In the wake of the incident, there were significant disruptions to the Metra BNSF train services, affecting both inbound and outbound routes on Monday night.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information.

The city issued a statement, saying, “This is a profound tragedy, and on behalf of the City of Naperville, I extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Our employees and contractors deliver vital services to the community daily, and their safety is of paramount importance to us. The loss of life in this manner is heartbreaking.

We express our gratitude to the Naperville Police and Fire Departments, and Metra Police for their swift and professional handling of the scene. The City is committed to supporting our staff through this challenging period and will cooperate fully with the Metra Police Department’s ongoing investigation into this incident.”
