MacDowell has been quite vocal on the topic in the past, and thinks it’s funny that she’s faced criticism for her natural grey hair.
She told Katie Couric in a 2023 YouTube interview: ‘It makes me laugh when someone says it makes her look older.’
‘You know I’m [turning] 65, what do you think, I look 75 just because I let my hair go? But I don’t care, I want to be old,’ she said.
‘I’m tired of trying to be young. I don’t want to be young. I’ve been young. And to be an older person trying to be young, what an effort. That’s a lot of effort. I just can’t keep up the charade… I can’t!’
The Goodrich actress has also noted that how one approaches aging is an ‘individual choice.’
Going gray doesn’t seem to have hurt MacDowell’s career.
She has four upcoming projects listed in IMDB, including a part as ‘Grandma’ in the drama Wildfire.
It comes as Helen Mirren joined Pierce Brosnan on set filming their first scenes for MobLand season 2 at swanky Mayfair restaurant Scott’s last week.

Meanwhile Pierce, 72, who plays her mob boss husband Conrad, cut a dapper figure in a smart grey pin-striped suit.
He layered the double-breasted blazer over a crisp white shirt and grey tie, while keeping warm in a long black wool overcoat.
The duo filmed scenes with Scott’s doorman as their characters dined alfresco and despite the cold weather appeared in great spirits as they shared a giggle between takes.
The gritty series follows powerful London crime bosses Conrad and Maeve Harrigan, as they battle a rival syndicate threatening their empire.
In the show, Tom Hardy stars as Harry Da Souza, their brutal fixer, who is called in to deal with any problems.
The storyline remains under wraps, but Season 2 is expected to pick up in the immediate aftermath of the Season 1 finale’s bloodshed.
The first season saw the Harrigans defeat the Stevenson family, headed by Richie (Geoff Bell), but ended on a cliffhanger with Harry being stabbed by his wife, Jan (Joanne Froggatt).
Harry had used solicitor O’Hara Delaney as a double agent to eliminate Richie’s gang, and then he and Conrad’s eldest son, Kevin (Paddy Considine), killed Richie.
The synopsis for the show reads: ‘Power is up for grabs as two warring crime families clash in a battle that threatens to topple empires.
‘In the crossfire stands Harry Da Souza, a street-smart ‘fixer’ who knows too well where loyalties lie when opposing forces collide.’
The gangster drama launched on Paramount+ in April and immediately impressed fans.
