Decatur Area Arts Council Launches Initiatives to Empower Local Artists

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A Macon County organization is inviting community members to embrace the spirit of the season by supporting local artists through two exciting holiday initiatives.

This year, the Decatur Area Arts Council is presenting two festive opportunities for shoppers to engage with and support local talent. Visitors to the Madden Arts Center can explore and purchase one-of-a-kind, handcrafted gifts and original artwork, tailored to fit their holiday shopping preferences.

One option is the holiday shop pop-up, a vibrant event spread throughout the Madden Arts Center. This pop-up showcases a diverse array of handmade crafts and 2D/3D art, all created by talented regional artists and makers. The Arts Council highlights this event as an ideal opportunity for those in search of unique, heartfelt holiday gifts.

Alternatively, shoppers can visit the holiday art shop located in the Anne Lloyd Gallery. This seasonal exhibition features an impressive selection of original 2D fine art. Visitors can browse and purchase high-quality artwork from local and regional artists, all beautifully displayed in the Arts Council’s main gallery.

The holiday gift shop pop-up will be open Dec. 3 from noon to 8 p.m. and Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The holiday art shop will be open Tuesday-Friday from Dec. 2-23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Both of these experiences will also be open during the Decatur Christmas Walk.

“With two unique experiences to explore, we’re excited to give our community more ways than ever to support local artists and crafters while finding truly unique gifts,” said Jami Fawley, executive director. “Supporting local creators with your holiday purchases also helps the Decatur-area creative community thrive.”
