The events unfolded around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday when officers were dispatched to a residence on the 200 block of Kirk Road in response to the shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered the injured man at his girlfriend’s home, prompting a swift response from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

According to JSO Sgt. Johnson, preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting occurred when the suspect, accompanied by another individual, arrived at the residence. The circumstances leading to the confrontation remain under investigation as authorities work to piece together the details of the incident.

Johnson said when officers arrived, they found the man, who is in his late-20s, injured. Members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department then responded to the home and took the man to a local hospital in “serious, but stable condition,” Johnson said.

“The initial investigation revealed the victim was at his girlfriend’s residence when the suspect and another individual came to the residence,” Johnson said.

The man and suspect got into an argument, which then turned into a fight, according to Johnson.

At some point, Johnson said, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the man twice before leaving the scene on foot with the individual they arrived at the home with.

Johnson said the two “possibly left in a white Volkswagen Jetta.” He added that the vehicle does not have any hubcaps and that the sheriff’s office does not have any tag information.

“There was another witness that was present during the incident and detectives are speaking with that witness,” Johnson said.

Johnson further told First Coast News it’s believed that all the people involved in the incident know each other, and that this appears to be an isolated incident.
