In a heartbreaking incident that unfolded in Stockton, California, an 8-year-old girl lost her life during a mass shooting at a child’s birthday party last Saturday. The young victim, identified as Maya Lupian, was one of the four people tragically killed in the senseless act of violence.
Maya was a bright third grader with a passion for karate, and she was eagerly anticipating her upcoming 9th birthday, just two weeks away. Her family shared these details on a GoFundMe page established in her memory, painting a picture of a vibrant young life cut short.
Sadly, Maya was not the only victim of this devastating event. Alongside her, a 9-year-old, a 14-year-old, and a 21-year-old also lost their lives. The shooting, which occurred at a community gathering meant for celebration, left the community reeling, with 11 others sustaining injuries.

A 9-year-old, 14-year-old and 21-year-old were also killed. Eleven other people were injured.
The 14-year-old victim was previously identified as Amari Peterson. Peterson’s father described his son as a “gentle soul.”

The FBI has joined other law enforcement agencies in the search for the suspects. The reward has increased from $25,000 to $50,000.
Investigators say least 100 people were celebrating a 2-year-old’s birthday when the gunfire started.
The man who leases the venue where the shooting happened says he doesn’t expect to reopen his business any time soon, if ever.
He told the Sacramento Bee, “There’s no business there anymore. It’s a memorial.”
