The tragic passing of rapper POORSTACY, a close associate of Travis Barker, is currently being investigated as a suicide. However, the artist’s family harbors suspicions of possible foul play, according to recent reports.
Carlito Milfort, known by his stage name POORSTACY, was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head in a Boca Raton, Florida hotel room. Sources revealed to TMZ that he was staying there with his young child and the child’s mother.
Milfort, recognized for his collaboration with Blink-182’s Barker on the 2020 track “Choose Life,” initially survived the incident. Unfortunately, after spending two days on life support, he passed away on Monday.
While the official cause of death has not yet been declared by the authorities, insiders indicated to TMZ that it is being considered a suicide resulting from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Despite these reports, a source familiar with the family shared with the outlet that they suspect there might be more to the story, though the family has not provided further details on their concerns.
Initial reports only said that Milfort was found having suffered a mysterious medical emergency. No one else was injured or admitted to hospital.
Milfort had checked into the hotel with a woman and a toddler — his child and partner, according to TMZ’s sources — 10 days before his death.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the tot and the woman were inside the hotel room with him when he died.
The musician, who had garnered acclaim and the attention of prominent artists, had teamed up with Barker on a slew of tracks — including the 2020 songs “Choose Life” and “Nothing Left.”
Barker, who is married to Kourtney Kardashian, paid tribute to the late rapper on Instagram on Tuesday.
“Rest in peace you’ll never be forgotten,” the drummer wrote over footage of them performing together.
He followed up with a clip of their track “Choose Life.”
Bring Me the Horizon frontman Oli Syke, who also collaborated with Milfort, posted a photo of the duo on his Instagram stories, writing: “R.I.P” with a black heart emoji.
