In a recent alert, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising consumers to be vigilant when using shredded cheese, following a recall by an Ohio-based company. Great Lakes Cheese Co. has withdrawn several of its cheese products from shelves across 31 states due to the risk of metal fragments being present in the products.
Originally announced on October 3, the recall was later reclassified to a Class II recall—a category that suggests the affected products could lead to temporary or medically reversible health issues, although serious adverse health effects are unlikely, according to the FDA’s guidelines.
