Six men, believed to be foreign nationals, have been detained by authorities after being found wandering around a remote Outback community in Western Australia.
Police told 9news.com.au an off-duty police officer found two men about 12 kilometres north of the town of Kalumburu in the state’s north on Monday.

Authorities suspect that the group arrived in the country by boat, though the exact landing site and point of departure remain unclear.

Upon uncovering that these men were part of a larger contingent, police launched a search operation to locate the others still at large.

The following day, officers discovered an additional four men in the Kalumburu region.

It appears the men had made their way from the beach towards the nearby community.

Locals told WAToday the men caught their attention due to their unusual dress – long pants in hot weather – and the fact that all roads were closed.

According to WAToday, these individuals were subsequently transported to the local airport, from where they were flown out of the area.

“The men were conveyed to Kalumburu Multi-Functional Police Facility for medical assessment,” WA Police told 9news.com.au.

WAToday reports the men were taken to the local airport, where they were flown out of the area.

When contacted for comment, Australian Border Force (ABF) refused to elaborate on where the men had been taken or provide further information on how they arrived in Australia.

“The Australian Border Force does not comment on operational matters,” an ABF spokesperson said.
