In Georgia, plans are underway for the execution of a man found guilty of murdering two real estate agents in the Atlanta suburbs over twenty years ago.

The Georgia Department of Corrections has announced that Stacey Humphreys is set to be executed at 7 p.m. on December 19. He was convicted of the 2003 malice murders of Cyndi Williams, aged 33, and Lori Brown, aged 21.

If carried out, Humphreys’ execution would mark the first in Georgia this year.

The tragic incident occurred on November 3, 2003, when Humphreys entered a sales office in a model home for a new development in Powder Springs, roughly 20 miles northwest of Atlanta. Evidence during the trial revealed that he coerced the two real estate agents into undressing and providing their bank PINs before shooting them to death and stealing their driver’s licenses, bank cards, and credit cards.

At the time of the crimes, Humphreys had been out on parole for just over a year, following a 1993 felony theft conviction.

Witnesses told police they saw a man fitting Humphreys’ description at the sales office and a vehicle in the parking lot that matched his black Dodge Durango. Police zeroed in on Humphreys and tried to question him at his Dunwoody home days later. He fled and was arrested in Wisconsin after leading police on a high-speed chase.

Police found a Ruger handgun that matched the 9 mm bullets used to kill the women in the console of the rented Jeep Humphreys used to flee. Blood on the gun matched Williams’ DNA, and blood in Humphreys’ truck matched Brown’s DNA, according to court documents.

Georgia uses the sedative pentobarbital to execute people, according to the Department of Corrections.
